Question by Joe B: When can civil debts become criminal, no fraud elements. How do they draw the line?
So if you owe the government, it’s criminal, if you owe a non governmental agency it’s civil? With no fraud elements attached, it’s as simple as that?
Is there a dollar amount, how do they figure out when monies owed become criminal?

You owe the credit card company, you avoid jail. You owe taxes, you go to jail. Is it done with a self serving mentality or are there actual formulas for figuring this stuff out?

I know obviously with fraud elements attached it’s criminal.

Taxes are owed to the government and the law is written to allow for criminal penalties for non payment. Civil debt is just that civil and no criminal penalties apply unless fraud is involved.

Question by A lot of doubt in my mind: Credit Card?
I asked a question about a credit card company deny my application because I am not a Permanent Resident. After couple of months, I apply for the same company and told them that I am a PR and they sent me the Credit card. (My credit history is perfect) What are they really checking? Credit history or present status of a person? By saying this information is it right or wrong?

Yes, you can!! Call them up and offer them 70 cents on the dollar. Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing, their acceptance and when it is paid in full.
